At Christ Church in The Episcopal Diocese of Dallas, we value all children and consider them as the most precious gift for the next generation of Christians. Because we are a bilingual community of diverse families, we offer Christian Education and Formation in English and Spanish. In our Sunday School for All Ages, we believe strongly that even our youngest members in our Nursery have Christian formation as well as our School-Age Children, Pre-school through Sixth grade, Jr. & Sr. High Youth, and Adults.
Our Christian Education for School-Age Children provides time and resources for each child to learn the Sacred Scriptures in worship and prayer in a way they can understand. We use Good News Children’s Chapel, a Lectionary-based educational curriculum that focuses in the same cycle of readings used in our Sunday Services. In the English Children’s Chapel, the children learn during the first 30 minutes of our Sunday Service, then they join their parents in the Sanctuary; the Spanish Children’s Chapel is one hour in the classroom prior to the Sunday Service so that the children may remain with their parents for the entire Holy Mass to reinforce the sense of belonging to the wider Church family. At the time of Holy Eucharist, all Baptized children may receive Holy Communion to fully participate in the Holy Mass.
We offer First Informed Communion classes to further educate our families. Class enrollment is open to all Baptized children ages seven and older; it is designed to inform who and what they are receiving in the Eucharist. We offer classes beginning in Autumn, so children receive their First Informed Communion on Easter Sunday. Children along with their families, specifically their parents and godparents participate in retreats during Advent and Lent.
For parents who wish to take their children to the Nursery, we offer child care for preschool-age children using the services of Caring Hands Childcare Services-DFW. The caregivers receive a lesson plan from The Lesson Plans That Work, which is a program designed to follow the Revised Common Lectionary.
